Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao would arrest India's declining child sex ratio and improve girls' education, launched by Modi in Panipat, Haryana.

The national Sex Ratio at Birth did improve, from 918 girls per 1,000 boys in 2014-15 to about 929-934 in more recent years, and 422 of 640 covered districts showed improvement over the scheme's first five years. But the government's own auditor found the picture was uneven: a CAG report found the sex ratio actually worsened in a number of districts, including in Haryana and Punjab, the two states the campaign was launched to address most directly, and the campaign's own budget was criticised for going disproportionately toward publicity rather than the ground-level enforcement work (like sex-selective abortion crackdowns) the scheme was meant to fund.
