Average monthly rural household income rose from ₹8,059 (2016–17) to ₹12,698 (2021–22), a real, documented increase of about 57.6%, per NABARD's All India Rural Financial Inclusion Survey (NAFIS). That's a genuine rise, and meaningfully short of the 100% the word “double” requires. In March 2021, NITI Aayog's own Dr. Ramesh Chand (Member, Agriculture) publicly said the 2022 target would not be met without further implementation of the three farm laws. The government itself repealed those laws in November 2021 after sustained nationwide farmer protests.

“57.6% is a genuinely solid raise. It is not, in any language, what the word “double” means.”
