OROP Poora Mila?
One Rank, One Pension: equal pension for military personnel who retired in the same rank with the same length of service, regardless of when they retired. Promised during the 2014 campaign.
The government formally decided to implement OROP on 7 November 2015, with benefits effective from 1 July 2014 and arrears paid in installments. But ex-servicemen and veterans' organisations objected that the version implemented differed from what the term originally meant, and from the Koshyari Committee's own recommendation. Instead of automatic annual pension equalisation, the government adopted equalisation every five years, a materially weaker definition. The dispute over what “One Rank One Pension” actually means has driven repeated veterans' protests since.
“Same name, quietly swapped definition. Call it the pension equivalent of shrinkflation.”
